Water and baking soda to clean corroded automotive battery connections

I recently had to replace the battery in my car. The end connections on the cable have a lot of crevices that cannot easily be cleaned. I found some Reddit posts that suggested baking soda and water. I found a few glass containers and put a few table spoons of baking soda in hot water. I then put the ends of the cables down into the solution. It immediately started bubbling. I left them in the solution until I got home with the new battery (about an hour). All of the corrosion was gone!

I wiped them clean and then sprayed them with electronics parts cleaner to remove any other debris and let them dry.

I installed the little fabric battery rings, put on the freshly cleaned cables, and then sprayed both terminals with an anti-corrosion spray I picked up at Autozone. I hope I don’t end up with the same level of corrosion this time.

  1. On a little side note here… baking soda and bleach 50/50 make THE perfect solution to clean your shower grout.
Brush it on and walk away. Chemicals do all the work for you. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
(Just dont get caught using your wifes tooth brush)😬
