I have ideas …a lot of them. I think about writing often and I cannot pinpoint why I choose to keep those ideas locked up instead of putting them here. Maybe it’s laziness or apathy but I don’t think it is. It is the one area I struggle to commit time and effort.
I have read and heard often that journaling is a common habit of highly effective people yet it is one of the habits I struggle with the most. I am very consistent in my morning routine and with diet and exercise. I tackle projects quickly and efficiently at home and work even when writing is required yet I still don’t take the time to write for myself.
I am a type ‘A’ person and strive for perfection in most things and that could very well be part of the problem. I want it to be perfect before I print instead of shipping the work when it is done. As Seth Godin says “Merely ship it” …send it out in the world even if it is not perfect.
I have put this off for over a year thinking tomorrow is when I will start and sometimes wishing I had started when I created this blog over 15 years ago. As they say, the second best time to start is now, so that is what I choose to do. I am not big on New Year’s resolutions, but I do reflect on the past year and think about what I should do for the next year to continue growing as a person and this year I choose to write.
I will not promise a daily blog or make a firm commitment to focus on a topic. I don’t work like that. I have a few hobbies I know a lot about and a wide range of things I know a little about so I will write about anything that strikes my fancy and thus the .XYZ web address. This blog will be a range of topics and personal reflections and I welcome you to join and follow as I write more often.
